Adaptive Music Program

Music Lessons Designed for Every Student

At Willow Glen Music School, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, and connection that music can provide.

Our Adaptive Music Program is designed for children and teens on the autism spectrum who may benefit from a more individualized, structured, and flexible approach to music education.

For students ages 5 and up, our program provides a calm, supportive environment where students can learn at their own pace while developing musical skills, communication, attention, confidence, and independence.

WGMS Adaptive Music: personalized weekly 30-minute private lessons for children on the autism spectrum and other learners, ages 5 and up

A Personalized Music Experience

Every student learns differently. Our teachers adapt their approach to each student’s individual interests, strengths, learning style, and needs.

Students can explore a variety of musical activities and instruments, including:

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Ukulele
  • Percussion
  • Singing and vocal activities

Students do not need previous musical experience. Lessons can be adapted for beginners through more experienced students.

What Does a 30-Minute Lesson Look Like?

  4. Student Choice | 5 minutes
The student chooses from 2–3 musical activities, providing opportunities for choice and independence.
  5. Wrap-Up | 3 minutes
Ending with a favorite song or successful activity and celebrating the student’s progress.

How a 30-minute adaptive lesson works (welcome, warm-up, main activity, student choice, wrap-up) and what the program focuses on

A Calm, Supportive Environment

Our goal is to create a safe, encouraging, and welcoming environment where students can feel comfortable exploring music and developing their abilities.

Lessons can incorporate repetition, visual schedules, student choice, movement, singing, rhythm activities, and other approaches that help make learning engaging and accessible.

Parents are encouraged to share information about their child’s interests, communication style, learning preferences, and strategies that have worked well in other settings. This helps our teachers create a more personalized experience for each student.
